Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour Review
Let me just point out first that I probably received a wrong batch or a bad lipstick of Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Cocoa Pout. I don’t know what happened to mine, but I see dots (like a sweat all over it); I don’t know if it’s already expired — I checked the box, it says 12 months upon opening. The “sweat” I saw was already there the first time I open it. This is the reason why I am not really using it (as of making this blog, I used it only twice for the sake of my review, not planning to use it on a regular basis that’s for sure). I know I only got this lipstick for free, still it sucks receiving a “deceased” (sorry I don’t have any word in mind to best describe it, so deceased will do for now) product, you know. Worry not, I will still review it the product like the way I review my other new products — fair and square.
Packaging: Comes in a chocolate dark brown box and plastic (but not cheap) tube with the same colour as the box. Once again, you’re gonna love the packaging, I do. When you open the tube, you’ll see a brownish silver in it that makes it look even more elegant.
Price: 1,400PHP or *27.81US $
Size: 3.6 g / 0.12 OZ.
Shade: Cocoa Pout
Coverage: Only light to medium, it will take me at least 5 swipes to get the colour payoff that I want.
Smells: Like a plastic (I was expecting it to smell so good, or at least to smell like a regular lipstick if not so good), but once it’s on your lips, you can hardly smell it.
Feels: As if I’m really wearing a lipstick, that feeling when you know it’s there (this is probably because I have to put multiple layers before I get satisfied with the colour).
Texture: I would classify the Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour (at least on the shade I’ve got) as creamy lipstick, hence the satin finish it gives. It is velvety smooth, glides on easily but…
Application: …I was surprised that even if I already moisturized my lips (with a lip moisturizer balm) like I always do, my lips flaked (excess skin!) the first time I put it on. Sure it looks smooth from afar but if you come closer, you can definitely tell that my lips are dry. Next time I used this, what I did was scrub my lips with a toothbrush to exfoliate the dead skin on my lips, however it still shows flakiness on my lips if you get near my lips. Again, from afar, my lips looks smooth, as if it is moisturized — because I think this lipstick has (a) moisturizing ingredient/s, wait, let me check their box: I see mango seed butter in the ingredients’ section. Not transfer-proof, not kiss-proof, although it doesn’t claim that it is anyway so I’m okay with that.
Longevity: Without drinking and eating, it can last up to 6 hours and more (but you know how impossible it is NOT to drink in such a long period) and; once you drink, you can definitely see that your lipstick will fade a little bit, and will fade more when you eat. I guess it’s safe to say that this lipstick won’t last you the whole day.
Final Words: I know it’s a high-end product and it looks glamorous, but I am not happy with it. I sure like the colour because it’s classic brown to red and red to brown shade, I think I can pull this off even by day. However, for me it’s not pigmented enough for it’s super expensive price. Sure it feels moisturizing, but you can see that my lips are telling me otherwise, and I don’t think it’s cool to scrub your lips everyday just for you to have dry-free lips; I know my moisturizing lip balm can make my lips smooth without even scrubbing it, but for this lipstick, it didn’t work.
Again, let me inform you that I probably received a wrong batch or a bad lipstick of Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Cocoa Pout.
