4, 3, 2, 1… Mascara : 24 Hours with Maybe It’s Maybelline Volum’ Express.

I should have uploaded this last year but I was lost, literally. It’s my first time to “really” blog. Anyways… Let’s get started.πŸ‘πŸ‘

Known for its ability to define, lenghten, curl and to add volume to eyelashes, this is probably the most in-demand mascaras in Asia, Europe and America. Can you guess what make up brand is it? You get it! When it comes to varieties of mascara, Maybelline New York comes first in the line. Not only because they are not too expensive, but also because they really offer a great make-up fit for both beginners and professionals. Not to mention that exhilirating New Yorker vibes you’ll get once you put their make-up on. Anyway, I happened to have not just 1 or 2 or 3 but 4 of their Volum’ Express edition mascaras:

(Above: Maybelline Volum’ Express – The Falsies, the Magnum, and the Rocketβ„’) Bought them during their Buy 2 Get 1 Free Promo last October 2015, and I also got this pink mirror cellphone accessory/keychain for free, aww!)

Plus another 1, the Maybelline Volum’ Express the Hypercurl that I’ve been using for more than a year now. Which brought me back to year 2010, when I first discovered the magic of Maybelline. I have this Maybelline Hypercurl Mascara Hello Kitty Edition I bought in Macau, Republic of China. It was the first mascara I ever owned, I didn’t know anything about make-up back then; all I know that this Maybelline mascara was something I must have!!! 3-4 years after, I’ve found a replica of it in the Philippines! Whew! Minus Hello Kitty, though.

*Photo (above) was taken year 2014 from my βœ’οΈ”My Love For Make-Up And Colours” album in my other social networking site (o’,’o)
So I decided to take this opportunity to write a review of these 4 mascaras. I thought why not also compare these four, so next time I must buy only one, I already know what to purchase. Are you ready? Let this sort of battle begins! πŸ™‚ To add a challenge for these 4 mascaras, I’ve written my activities during the day I used each (only one Maybelline Volum’ Express mascara a day).

Take note πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“:

A. All of them are waterproof, except for The Rocketβ„’. As far as I know, BOTH the waterproof and the non-waterproof of these 4 mascaras are available in other areas, but during my purchase, these are the only ones available.

B. I used an eyelash curler before putting on the mascara.

C. Absolutely NO retouch. Only wiping off residues of the mascara under my eyes or my cheeks.

D. I sleep with the mascara on just to see how long it will really last.

E. I wipe the mascara off the next day using the Maybelline Eye& Lip Make Up Remover.

F. I rate according to its package, if it’s true to its words or taglines it uses, the make up it actually delivers (a/k/a the effect), longevity, and of course, the price.

1.) Maybelline Volum’ Express THE FALSIES

– Waterproof and smudge proof

– Colour: Black

– Voluminous and lengthening

– Spoon-shaped applicator

– Thin, short, fanned-out brush

– They say that this can be compared to popular false eyelashes we have these days, that’s why it’s called The Falsies. Now we will see about that πŸ™‚

– The most expensive among 4, regular price is 459php

Application: Surprisingly, one coat is enough to see its effect! It adds instant length to my super short eyelashes, plus it’s not so thick at all. So to get more volume, you can add another coat to see its full extent.

IΒ instantly fell in love with The Falsies! Look how thin and clean it is! For me, one coat is enough.

Activities this day:

– Wash the dishes by day

– Feed the dogs and cat

– Not to mention play with them πŸ˜‰

– Happy birthday celebration for my youngest brother/dinner date with my family

– Spa/massage after midnight

The next morning, as you can see a lot of residues fell from my eyelashes but it should be completely obvious because I came from a “hard” level of body massage, my face included. Yes, a big part of it fell due to oil, but it’s still visible.

The Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies didn’t fail my expectation. A lot of people already said great things about this, and I’m like, I should have one, too! Just to see. I told you I fell in love with it in an instant, and I’m sure you too will. It’s true to its word that it is smudge-free, so that’s something to look forward to, aside from the fact that it can really look like a false eyelashes (give it at least 3 coats to achieve that “false” effect level).

@HisPoutingPrincess Rates:

2.) Maybelline Volum’ Express Edition THE ROCKETβ„’:
– Washable (Non-waterproof)

– Colour: Black

– Volumizing and lengthening (“Explosive volume that extends in rocket time!” as per Maybelline)

– Clump-free

– Revolutionary ultra-sonic brush (notice how different this brush is compared to other 3 in this review)

– Regular price is 399php

Application: One coat is actually enough, but because its effect is thin, you might want to add another coat to achieve volume. By rocket time, it means it easily dries on your eyelashes in a jiff. It really does.

Activities this day:

– Pretty much like a regular day

– Wash the dishes

– Feeds the dogs and cat by day

– Feeds the dogs and cat by night

– Oh, I travelled 3-4 hours!

And since it’s washable, I decided to wash my face like I normally do (but no make up remover involved yet), just to see if the entire mascara will be removed just by washing it with my regular facial wash. Turned out…

It didn’t really. You still need a make up remover in order to get all the mascara off your eyelashes but this time it’s so much easier to wipe it off completely.
The Maybelline Volum’ Express The Rocketβ„’ for me is the bomb, its “revolutionary” and “explosive” written words all over its package is not just a tagline to lure you, it really does a wonderful job for your pretty eyes! It may not be as thick as The Falsies, but that is why it’s great because it will look natural in your eyes.

3.) Maybelline Volum’ Express THE MAGNUM
– Waterproof

– Colour: Black

– Voluminous and curling

– Spoon-shaped applicator

– Bristles almost the same as The Hypercurl

– Rich and thick mascara

– Regular price is 399php

βœ’οΈWhoopsie! I thought this was the one Drew Barrymore is endorsing (that’s why I gave this to my Mama because we like Barrymore, also why the text in this mascara are almost erased because I borrowed this from my Mama’s make-up kit.πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ€“). They have the same colours and looks, I wonder which mascara with this packaging came first (Maybelline or Covergirl?). Can anyone tell me?

Application: You need one to two coats to see the improvement it gives to your eyelashes, I have very thin and short eyelashes but you can never tell when you put this mascara on.

(Above, I used the front camera of my phone for this. Kindly bear with me. Thank you.)

Activities this day:

– Train and bus ride for more than an hour (going out)

– Interview in the morning

– Lunch date

– A little make up shopping for my future beauty reviews (o’,’o)

– Snack/dinner date

– Bus and train ride for more than an hour (going home)
After roughly 15 to 18 hours, it’s still intact. Though I noticed that the mascara started clumping on my eyelashes, and flakes also started falling on my cheeks, but all you need is a brush or your bare hands to wipe it off gently.

(Well, this day I didn’t really sleep with make up on, more like I didn’t sleep at all :-P)

The Maybelline Volum’ Express The Magnum is heavy for my eyelashes, and it easily gets dry once you put it on, which I think is a 50/50. It’s good because you know it won’t get messy, but also not good because once it dries, it’ll be a little harder to make your eyelashes apart; especially I noticed that the mascara is super thick, so you should be careful on putting another coat. In fact, it took effort to wipe it off the next day. The longevity of this mascara is really serious compared to other 3 Maybelline Volum’ Express mascaras, I think that’s its edge, and that’s why it’s called The Magnum.
@HisPoutingPrincess rates this:

4.) Maybelline Volum’ Express The Hypercurl

– Waterproof

– Colour: Very Black

– Voluminous and curling (it has curl-lock formula)

– Spoon-shaped applicator

– Bristles almost the same as The Magnum

– Became really popular in the Philippines when Asia’s Next Top Model host Georgina Wilson used it many times for her New York Fashion Week last October 2015

– The most affordable among the Volum’ Express edition, regular price is just 250php

Out of all 4, I think this package is the most sophisticated one. A combination of silver, pink and black, one cannot tell that this costs only half of 500! Also, it is the lightest and for me, although I like the colourful package of the other 3 Volum’ Express editions, this one is still the cutest and it looks the most expensive, too. Right?

Application: You need 3 or more coats to achieve its full extent. Though not so obvious in this photo, it actually has the power to curl your eyelashes. Here, I put only 2 coats.

Activities this day:
– Just another regular day

– Wash the dishes

– Feed the dogs and cat by day, also play with them πŸ˜‰

– Wash the dishes

– Feed the dogs and cat by night

Now what people will immediately love about this mascara is its curling effect, as you can see here, my eyelashes are all curled up even after sleeping. It left only a bit of mascara traces over my face, my eyelashes are still intact.

The Maybelline Volum’ Express The Hypercurl is a great mascara because the curling effect instantly opened your eyes, making your peeps more awake. However, for me, it’s not as natural and long as The Rocketβ„’, not as thick and rich as The Magnum and The Falsies. The good news is, on my normal days (and by normal I mean by wearing make up NOT to review it, but just to use it) you don’t need eyelash curler before applying this.

@HisPoutingPrincess Verdict: Maybelline Volum’ Express Edition – Mascara

There is no doubt that Maybelline Volum’ Express mascaras are best in volumizing and defining eyelashes. However, you cannot really tell the difference, because all of them are almost the same when it comes to content and its effect. Look at this photo below, can you tell me what Volum’ Express mascara I used in this photo? Put your wild guess in the comment box! πŸ™‚

I was almost lost when I put all the raw photos together in one folder, I couldn’t really tell which is which; good thing I have my notes and dates with me, I was able to sort them out πŸ˜‰

@HisPoutingPrincess Favourite Goes To… (Drum rolls, anyone?)

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Rocketβ„’

Why? The fact that it looks natural on my eyelashes makes it my instant favourite the first time I applied it. Make-up that looks natural is always beautiful and as I said earlier, it is the bomb…❀️❀️❀️

  1. I’ve been using Maybelline (make up and) mascaras for years. I tried using other brands before but i always go back to Maybelline. It’s good and it’s sooooo cheap! (Than other brands). I guess its really true that their make ups are suitable for Asians.
